The sixth season of Buffy has been bleak and frequently hard to watch. A few episodes ago, I very nearly gave up on it entirely.

I just watched the season finale, and I have to say...Joss still floors me. God bless his twisty little heart. Brilliant.

Also, why does Buffy suck? Buffy didn't suck before. It used to be funny. People's boyfriends turned into werewolves and left them, but then there was funny. The school got blown up. Buffy always won. This season's been one horrible thing after another...death, betrayal, domestic violence, more betrayal, minimum wage work...geez.

Despite the weirdness of the season premiere, Joss Whedon is just that good. The characters, after all this time and all these comic-book plots, keep getting more complex, more layered, and more interesting. (Except for Xander, but who cares about Xander.)

Damn.
